I lied... I have one more entry in me.
Bush is going to win. Ohio may be in flux for a few days, but Bush is going to win. He has a 200,000 vote lead in Ohio right now. Lets just all accept it.... Take a deep breath. Say it with me...
Bush is going to win...
Now, that being said, lets talk about a few things. First, The popular vote is roughly 3,000,000 votes in favor of the President. He will win that, it looks like, 51%-49%. Not exactly a mandate, but I'll take it.
As I watched all day long, I heard very little to give me the impression that disenfranchisement took place... there probably have always been isolated incidents, but in this case there was enough, at least for me, to be convincing.
I say this now, and you can hold me to it: This was legitimate. George W. Bush was elected President tonight.
Lets move on. We have to hold him accountable for the next four years. He cannot appoint activist judges to the courts who will change the direction of this country as set for nearly 40 years. This would be the same thing he has deplored in regards to gay marriage.
We cannot allow him to run this country even further into fiscal insolvency. If his spending methods keep up, the IMF will stop sending us letters telling us we will be insolvent by 2015 and will start taking votes and telling the world that our economic system is about to cause the breakup of our union.
We cannot allow him to go to war in another country with insubstantial evidence. Enough said.
We cannot allow him to keep our soldiers in Iraq without a plan to get them through this toughest part of the war. He must arm them, he must protect them, and he must give them the leadership needed to make them victorious in the war against the insurgents in Iraq. As I sit here tonight, our troops are poised to attempt to retake Fallujah, and it will likely be a bloody, terrible battle. They must be lead, protected, and sustained properly. We aren't leaving until we get through. It is up to us to make sure he gets them through it the right way.
We must keep him from re-instated a draft. This is the surest sign that we are heading down a Vietnam -esque road.
Most importantly, we, as Democrats, have to continue to mobilize in the way that we began this year. The Republicans started their mobilization years ago, and it is a finely tuned machine. The Democratic party is a marginalized, unpopular party now. But that began to change this year, and we all have Howard Dean to thank. We must continue.
2008 is ahead of us, and Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards are counting on us.
If Ohio changes hands, it is a whole new ballgame, but this liberal is looking to 2008.
