So, I haven't discussed it this season, but I've been watching American Idol again this year. I'm not proud of it, but once I get sucked in, there's no going back... When they finally got to the performance stages, at first I thought, "Hey, maybe this won't be a competition about who sucks the least this year," but it has pretty quickly meandered back into mediocrity. About last night's women.
I'm a fan of Melissa... I think she really sang Heart's "What About Love" and has been consistent the whole contest. I would love to see her stick around, but I just don't think she will. She's not spectacular, but she's good.
Paris is just so good, but she's not showing ANYTHING in the performance stages to make anyone think she's anything beyond a 16 year old with a great voice. I think she's in grave danger of going home this week.
That is if Ayla-bot doesn't get voted off this week. She's just robotic and uncomfortable, but with a nice, solid voice. But, as Simon said, its nice to see the people who've never had a shot in this world get one.
Lisa continues to underwhelm while looking like she's at one of those Christian beauty pageants.
Stephanie... I don't get the love affair with her. She would have been at home in the competition a couple of years ago, but to me she just seems to rehearsed.
Kinnik - I'm pretty sure that's an old english word for "Gone."
Mandisa.... I really, really think she's got the potential to be the spoiler this year. She just has a fabulous voice and seems head and shoulders above the rest of the girls every week. Her size could work for her or against her.
I like Kelly, but I don't lurve her.
Kinik definitely goes, and the other slot will probably be Ayla, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its Paris.
The guys go up tonight, and it's time to see if my man-crush on Taylor Hicks will turn into simple annoyance. If there's a god in heaven, however, Ace will crash and burn. Unfortunately, we've still got to get rid of Bucky and Will before he leaves.

Taylor is awesome, but he does have the potential to become a parody of himself. He reminds me of John Belushi doing his Joe Cocker impression. I read on a blog somewhere that he is like 'an articulate tard with a personality'. That pretty much sums up his nonmusical side.
I'd like to think that Elliot is the dark horse to win. Sure, I'd rather look at a plateful of maggots, but that m.f. can sing. That Stevie Wonder tune he did last week was not an easy one to pull off, and he made it seem like a hot knife going through butter.
I also think McPhee has a good shot because she's really cute, she has personality, she seems relatively humble, and she's got a great voice. If I had to pick one person right now to win, it would be her. But I'm pulling for the guys this year.
I agree with you about Paris. Tons of talent, horrible song choices thus far. Simon has it right when he says that it sounds like her grandmother picked the song. Plus, the fact that her grandmother is/was famous should disqualify her. She'll have a shot at the industry without this competition, especially at her age, and somebody else deserving who otherwise would not have a shot should have taken her place. (Plus, I can't stand her speaking voice. It reminds me of that cop from the Police Academy franchise.)
Mandisa's voice is the best in the group, but the regrettably trapeze-able arm flab will prevent her from winning. I don't agree with the philosophy behind that, but I think it's the truth nonetheless.
Who will be off this week?
Kinnik (nice translation, by the way)
Ayla (too rigid and manly)
Kevin (because everyone had enough of him after 'A Christmas Story' and all those chocolate mile commercials)
Will (because one John Mayer is enough)
I wish we could get rid of more, though, because Ace shouldn't be there, Bucky shouldn't be there, and that ear-to-ear Gideon should not be there.
I think there's been a good amount of justice served so far as to who's been kicked off, but they may need to rethink the 'top 12' philosophy because there are some lousy-ass people that will be in it.
All right, I'm done now.

Mandisa was so good last night, that Jeoff actually came in from the other side of the house to watch her, based on kind-of hearing her belt out the first verse.
That said, I so want Kinnik gone. And, I was glad that Katherine dropped the whole "Posessed by Demons" face.
