The President was asked why he thought no one was held accountable for the mistakes that have been made in Iraq. His response:
"We had an accountability moment, and that's called the 2004 election... The American people listened to different assessments made about what was taking place in Iraq, and they looked at the two candidates and chose me, for which I'm grateful."
Yes, the President won the election, but it was hardly an "accountability moment." 59,027,612 (give or take a few pesky injustices in Ohio and Florida) people voted to hold the President accountable because, while the reasoning of the Bush voters may be in doubt (was it leadership? moral values?), the reasoning of Kerry voters was clear: The President made so many mistakes that he must never be given the opportunity to commit more. The implication that "the American people have spoken, and with a loud voice they have declared that I was right" is as asinine as it is ignorant of reality.
It is an interesting look into the President's mind, however. He covers all his actions by saying "What I did in the past, the American people said was ok, and since they voted for me, I have carte blanche for the future." I can't avoid putting the same quote into two posts on the same day:
''That's not the way the world really works anymore,'' he continued. ''We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.''
The President and the above anonymous quotee (who sounds suspiciously like Don Rumsfeld to me) see this attitude as noble. And that is the real issue that the nation faces for the next four years. The past is the past and blah blah blah, but the future holds, for us, a President who believes that he, the American people, and God are all on the same page.

We're an EMPIRE now??? Disgusting. That quote is unbelievable. Where did you find that??
